Depot Cadix, an extremely energy-efficient residential complex consisting of 2 residential blocks with a common courtyard garden, includes 15 apartments and 2 penthouses, 6 houses, 2 commercial spaces and an underground car park.
Sustainability, design and technology come together in Depot Cadix. The two residential blocks are entirely constructed in accordance with the passive building standards. Solar panels on the roof, rainwater harvesting, an ‘all on/all off’ button per home, triple glazing, charging facilities for electrical vehicles and focus on bio-ecologically justified finishing materials and sustainability-certified collaboration partners are some of the sustainability measures taken within the scope of this project. As a result, all apartments and houses have an E-rating of E35 on average (min. E24 to max. E38) and a K-rating of K15 on average. The units in block B have even been awarded a passive building certificate by the Passive House Platform. These houses and apartments have a very short pay-off time. What you would pay for one month’s energy consumption in a classic home, you will now pay for a full year on average!
The courtyard of the sustainable complex will be a verdant oasis of tranquillity, characterised by a rich biodiversity of trees, small fruit hedges, high grasses and wild flowers, like in an English wild garden. It is a safe, enclosed playing environment for children and is very low maintenance. An insolation study also indicates that Depot Cadix has the most advantageous insolation of this first development in the Cadix neighbourhood.

The visionary design of Depot Cadix stems from a fruitful synergy between solid know-how of architecture and sustainability. For years now, Crepain Binst Architecture has been setting the tone with innovative designs, both domestically and abroad. For Depot Cadix, the firm joined forces with evr-Architecten, a design team specialised in sustainable architecture and urban development. The close collaboration and mutual inspiration between both partners resulted in a beautiful and timeless warehouse architecture, typical of ’t Eilandje.
