The Glazen Huis (Glass House) derives most of its charm from the area in which it is located. Everything that Antwerp has to offer as an international city of fashion and culture is readily accessible and the building itself offers a magnificent view of monuments such as the cathedral, Saint Paul’s church, the Beguinage and the state-of-the-art MAS museum.
Dating from 1938, the listed Van Ommeren building is located in the old Antwerp inner city, not far from the “Eilandje”. It is one of the finest examples of early modernistic architecture in the metropolis. Designed by the Dutch architect’s firm Brinkman & Van den Broek, this former office complex will now be the platform for an innovative residential and commercial concept.
Conix Architects did not only restore the building with its high faceted steel-and-glass facades, the impressive shed roof, the glass staircase and the round concrete interior structure to its former glory, but also transformed it into an entirely authentic new urban living environment.
Interior architect Arjaan De Feyter came up with an innovative interpretation for each of the city flats, thus combining the unique round shapes, high ceilings and industrial look & feel into an efficient and contemporary layout.
The project concerns an aboveground development of 3,320m2.
